Essay on Criminal Justice Fields - 982 Words
Criminal Justice has numerous avenues in which to follow so making the choice of what specific field to choose a difficult decision. This is not a choice that should be taken lightly nor in haste but one that should be contemplated and examined closely. I have done an enormous amount of research on many of the fields of criminal justice narrowing it down to three: Forensics, Probation/ Parole and Homeland Security. For me personally, these are the best three choices given their potential for being challenging. Forensic science is the application of a broad spectrum of sciences to answer questions of interest to a legal system. The most noted fields, which people associate with forensics, are fingerprint analysis, ballistics, DNA profiling and toxicology however the everyday public is unaware the forensic field also includes fire investigation, forensic engineering, and even vehicular accident reconstruction. Within the last twenty years, due to the advances in technology and science, many new disciplines have come into fruition. Vein matching, also called vascular technology, is a technique of biometric identification though the analysis of the patterns of blood vessels visible from the surface of the skin. Though used by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), this method of identification is still in development and has not yet been universally adopted by crime laboratories as it is not considered as reliable as more established techniques, such as fingerprinting.
